It has been a busy summer for KAWS Animal Rescue and that will continue as we head into the fall and winter months.  A board meeting was held on Wednesday to talk about plans moving forward. Grant Co-Ordinator of KAWS Kathy McMillan stopped in at the West Central Online Studios Thursday to talk about the meeting and other news from KAWS.  "Some of the highlights from the meeting are currently we currently have 12 kittens and cats in care. We are stretched to the max at the moment, we are in desperate need of foster homes," McMillan said.

On August 14, nine puppies were abandoned in a crate outside a home in Chatteris Road, Mepal, then on August 20th - six rabbits were left in three pet carriers at Ring's End Nature Reserve, in Friday Bridge. Then four days later, three kittens were seen being dumped from a van in Puddock Road, Warboys.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — On a chilly damp morning, Julie Schirado came by the studio with her four-legged companion, Captain the kitten, to talk about adopting the animals and to shine a light on the abuse some of them endure before arriving at the Furry Friends Rockin rescue.

A litter of maltipoo puppies who were rescued over the summer after their mother died is now ready for adoption. The Kamloops Humane Society will hold an adoption event at PetSmart on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at which the puppies and a dozen Siamese and other kittens will be up for grabs. The puppies are now 10 weeks old and the kittens are eight weeks old.

A rescue centre is shocked as 17 unwanted pets are abandoned in just a few days in Cambridgeshire. A crate containing nine puppies was left out side a house in The Fens last month In the space of 10 days last month, the RSPCA said nine puppies, five rabbits and three kittens were left in crates or dumped by roads in Cambridgeshire. The RSPCA said many of its centres, like this one, were full and urged people wanting a pet to adopt one, rather than buy on the open market. Animals are amazing. This street cat in Turkey lifted a bag of chicken from a supermarket and then carried it back to her kittens. The humans were cool about it and encouraged her efforts.

Journal staff A kitten was saved Wednesday afternoon from a storm drain in the City Hall parking lot, just hours before rain fell in the downtown area. The saga began Wednesday around lunch time, when City building inspector Lon Schnittgrund was heading to his car in the City Hall parking lot. He heard a noise coming from the storm drain and discovered the young kitten who had slipped through the grate and found itself in a predicament. A call was made to the City's Utility Maintenance Department and crew members Troy Landry and Chad Wilczynski arrived quickly on scene to open the grate.

A kitten purred constantly after being saved, and started helping other cats in the sweetest way. Dewey the kitten AlleyCatRescue A kitten named Dewey was found wandering around the streets all alone. He was brought to the nearest animal shelter where he was estimated to be five weeks old. Shelter staff immediately noticed his badly infected (ruptured) eye. They sent out a plea for help, hoping to get the kitten a fighting chance. Alley Cat Rescue learned about his plight and didn't hesitate to take him on.

A volunteer at the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, who strives to keep the memory of his own pet alive, has set the record for fostering the most pets in the organization's history. Jerry Marchand was just barely able to hold back tears when he accepted the Richard and Nathalie Philanthropy Award at Dakin's Barks & Brews event on Sunday, Sept. 10. The award honors volunteers who show exceptional dedication to improving the lives of animals, according to the society. 'It was just so special,' Marchand told MassLive on Monday.
