At any rate, we'll have one today, at least. The Washington Pos t has a lovely story about an English woman, profoundly deaf, who got a kitten. PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — Yoga, beers and video games all bring people together — and they might help some find their furry soulmate, too. Northwest Animal Companions, a nonprofit dog and cat rescue in Portland, is teaming up with local businesses to shed light on the historically high number of cats and kittens in need of homes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, spay and neuter services shut down, leading to an urgent feral and stray cat problem in the Portland area, according to NWAC volunteer Beth Lewis-Anderson.

An investigation of animal cruelty  near Iron Bridge remains ongoing after the carcasses of an unknown number of puppies were found in a cage on a side road last month. But a new animal rescue in Sault Ste. Marie recently located and saved the mother of that litter, Roxy, who gave birth to a healthy litter of eight pups on Friday. Called ‘Second Chances Animal Rescue,' the group was founded by five local animal lovers this past August: Aleigha McLean, Melissa Pritchard, Shannon Wilson, Mikayla Huckerby, and Maddisyn Evans.

A stray cat named Conan has become an unofficial member of the security team at the Worldwide Corporate Center in Manila, Philippines. The six-month-old feline wears a black-and-yellow security vest and casually strolls past the security guards as they wait for their shift instructions. Although Conan may not possess the same security skills as dogs, his presence brings joy and companionship to the guards during their 12-hour shifts. Conan's journey to becoming a security cat began when he was rescued as a few weeks old kitten by a housekeeper who found him crying in the building's car park.

CORONADO, Calif. — A kitten darting in and out of traffic on a Southern California bridge was responsible for a three-car crash on Tuesday, authorities said. According to a Facebook post by the Coronado Police Department, a motorist stopped on the San Diego-Coronado Bridge after seeing the orange male tabby zipping across lanes on the highway. When the motorist, who was headed eastbound on the bridge, stopped their vehicle and attempted to catch the kitten, two other vehicles collided with the parked car, KSWB-TV reported.

Andy Taylor has become a cat person .  The musician says this happened rather unexpectedly last fall, after his grandson rescued a tiny kitten named Lucky. Taylor and the cat quickly bonded; in fact, Lucky has now become a constant presence while the musician works in his Ibiza studio. "If I'm sitting playing, I'll put a stool behind me, and he'll sit behind me while the music's on and listen," Taylor says, calling from London via Zoom in early July.
